The Brazilian club’s sporting director claims the Catalan side submitted an offer for the Colombia international

Barcelona want to sign Colombia centre-back Yerry Mina in January, according to Palmeiras sporting director Alexandre Mattos.

Mina, 23, has been linked to the La Liga giants, who have an option to buy the defender after the World Cup.

However, Mattos said Barca were keen to land the nine-time Colombia international in January, although Palmeiras want to keep the centre-back until the off-season.

Tosun close to Everton switch

Everton have agreed a deal to sign the Besiktas striker, subject to personal terms being finalised, in a reported £27m deal.

The 26-year-old Turkish international is a former Eintracht Frankfurt and Gaziantepspor forward and has won the Super Lig twice with Besiktas, in 2016 and 2017.

Speaking at his press conference, Allardyce said: “I think it is personal terms, [that] is the final stage. After some long negotiation, we have got to that stage now.

“That might happen before the cup. We might get him registered before the cup, if we are lucky.

“There is a medical and all sorts to go through, so that might be very tight.

“Securing the player is the most important thing, because it has been the club’s biggest area of concern.”

And on playing against Liverpool, Allardyce added: “Possibly. [It] depends on his overall fitness. We wouldn’t want to risk damaging him, in terms of he hasn’t trained for a few days. There’s lots of mental energy you burn waiting for the move you want. That assessment will come from the medical or fitness staff.”

He concluded: “Hopefully he will come to the club and show he is good value for money. If we get the transfer done and he is successful for us by scoring goals it will be an exceptionally good deal for us.

“We’ve searched high and low for a long time at the club before I arrived. This one was one we focused on as quickly as we can.

“We’re trying at the moment to cure one of the areas where we have a problem. It’s a huge pressure on the lad, I hope he can live with it, we all do. There’s no guarantee you can hit the ground running.”

Wagner thrilled to be back at Bayern

Bayern Munich forward Sandro Wagner says his return to his boyhood club is a ‘dream come true’ and he’s ready to fight for his place in the team.

Wagner graduated from the club’s academy in 2007 before embarking on a nomadic career with MSV Duisburg, Werder Bremen, Kaiserslautern and Hertha Berlin before finding relative success with Darmstadt and Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga over the past three seasons.

As a target-man, his 29 league goals in the past two seasons and a half earned him national team recognition in 2017 – where he has now netted five goals in seven senior caps as well as winning the Confederation Cup with Die Mannschaft.

This form led to a €13million move back to the Bundesliga Champions with head coach Jupp Heynckes seeking competition for striker Robert Lewandowski.

“Everything is really positive,” he told the club’s website after his first training session. “The team has welcomed me very well. It’s an absolute dream to be home again at Bayern. I’m just happy.

“I left as a young player and return as a Germany international. It’s different and you notice that. I know what to expect here. I know I’ll be on the bench for periods,” Wagner added.

“However, everyone will get time out on the pitch. The coach said that today. My ideal dream would be to get playing time and make it into the World Cup squad.”

Wagner, who was part of the famous Germany U21 squad who won the 2009 Euro Championship alongside Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira, Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels and George Boateng – revealed national team coach Joachim Löw endorsed his return to the Allianz Arena.

“He told me to make the move. It was the only decision for me. It’s a different level here compared to other Bundesliga teams.

“It helps you progress when you have to give your all every day.”
